On the plus side, I'll get to start practing my
drawing skills again. Here's Ariel.
I can tell I'm a little rusty.
And I think I need some new markers.

I was worried about how well she'd handle the patching now that she's a year older. I was afraid she might fight it. But, so far so good. I feel BAD for her, though. The vision in that eye is not good right now--20/100. I know it must be annoying to have only that weak eye to get around with. She had a difficult time putting away the silverware this afternoon. That's one of her regular chores that she is good at. Today she said, "I can't do it, Mom. I can't see." It was the first time I've ever heard her verbalize something like that and it broke my heart. She also ran her chin into her doorframe on her way to take her nap. Hopefully the number of accidents will decrease as her vision improves.
After six weeks, we'll go back up to Duke and see what Dr. Buckley says. He was surprised at how bad her vision was because he says her alignment looks good. He tested to see if she needs glasses, but that's not the problem. I'm confused. I feel like this is just a never-ending cycle for our little girl. Andrew and I were talking last night about whether or not it's time to seek treatment elsewhere. Dr. Buckley is supposed to be one of the best in his field. The only doc that I know of who is more highly recommended than him for Whit's condition is at UCLA. I don't know what to do.

oh--I'm so sorry Andrea. It must be discouraging. I wish you well with this round of patching.
On a lighter note, I think you Ariel looks great!
Is there anyone at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Hopkins? At least that's within driving distance.
Sorry that you're caught in this cycle.
Oh man! That must be so discouraging! Good thing you can draw princesses:) Keep us posted, okay?
We're so sorry to hear about Whitney's latest exam. She's such a trooper, though, we're sure she will cope with the patch, taking it in stride as she has before.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
(Tell Whitney she makes a much prettier pirate than Johnny Depp does.)
You do draw a very nice Ariel, I must say! Poor Whit--it's not fun, I'm sure, especially now that she's older. Although I'm sure Dr. Buckley is doing all that he can, it also never hurts to have a second opinion sometimes. You might not even need to fly out to see the other "top guy " in LA--just find another good eye doctor near to you for a second set of eyes. (No pun intended! You know what I mean! :-). We'll be praying for Whit!
The story about Whitney not being able to see to put away the silverwear was so sad - poor little kid. I agree that a second opinion is a good idea - doctors are just people and do their best detective work, but it's not rocket science when you're dealing with a little body. You are really a good artist though - who knew you had such talent? Whitney's our little super hero and we hope the next 6 weeks goes by quickly for her and that she can see better and better each day. I imagine her brain will quickly make up for the change in vision and she'll be putting away silverwear like a pro before long.
Love you,
Mom Sweat
The story about the silverware broke my heart too! Poor Whit. I hope the patch helps!
And you are a good artist because when I first looked at the picture I couldn't even tell it was a drawing I thought it was printed on the patch!
It is amazing what little troopers these little girls are. I bet Whit is just excited that she got to see her boyfriend. I thought that Addie would hate me after all the shots, but kids are so loving and forgiving. I am sure that this is a discouraging time. Hard for whit and you and Andrew, but if there is one thing that I have learned it is that I knew the plan God had for me before I came here and I still chose to come. So did Addie and so did Whit. I am so glad that they did!
Kelly, that is such a SWEET thought. Thanks for sharing!
